The focus of police work has shifted from solely handling emergency calls to dealing with issues before they become crime problems. Community policing is based on the concept that crime is a community issue and cannot be solely left to law enforcement to address. Deputy sheriffs, businesses, organizations and private citizens must work together to find ways to solve problems related to crime in order for the solutions to be truly effective.
The Ada County Sheriff's Office is responsible for police services in unincorporated Ada County and also contracts to provide increased levels of policing for the communities of Eagle, Kuna, and Star. Contract policing provides a greater level of service to the people of these cities, while allowing the city governments to provide it at about half the cost of creating their own police departments within their cities. The savings come mostly from decreased administrative costs and the sharing of services rather than duplicating them.
